Geotechnical Engineering

The AU Geotechnical Research Group conducts work to understand and describe the complex behaviour of soil and its interaction with foundations and infrastructure, so that optimal and sustainable engineering solutions can be developed. The aim is to solve the civil engineering challenges posed by the green transition. The group bring together expertise in geomechanics, computational methods, and soil-structure interaction.
Our current research, conducted using a combination of laboratory/field tests and numerical methods, focuses on the following areas:

  • Laboratory testing of clays and field trials at the Danish geotechnical test sites
  • Constitutive models of fine-and coarse-grained soils
  • Development of novel concepts for underground energy storage
  • Mechanics of onshore and offshore foundations
  • Underground constructions and tunnels
  • Monitoring of geotechnical structures

The Geotechnical Research group is open to discussing new partnerships with industry and research institutes at other universities.
