Sustainable Timber Engineering and Circular Construction

Timber is a renewable and low-carbon material with the potential to reduce the environmental impact of the built environment compared with traditional construction materials. We explore how timber products can meet structural performance requirements while contributing to the broader goals of sustainability and circular economy, and we develop innovative engineering solutions that enhance the performance, reliability and adaptability of timber structures. By integrating advanced computational modelling, experimental testing, structural optimisation, and digital workflows for analysis, documentation and manufacturing, we aim to improve accuracy, reduce material use and open new possibilities for customised timber construction. Rather than viewing leftover or reclaimed wood as waste, we investigate how such material can be incorporated into building components, and we investigate modular and prefabricated timber construction aimed at assembly, disassembly and reuse.
