Bridge engineering at the Centre for Advanced Engineering (CAE), Aarhus University, focuses on understanding and improving the performance, safety, and long-term behaviour of bridge structures under realistic environmental and operational conditions. The research combines advanced structural analysis, experimental investigations, and full-scale field measurements to improve assessment of structural capacity, fatigue behaviour, aerodynamic performance, and long-term deterioration processes. Particular emphasis is placed on extending the service life of existing bridge infrastructure through improved structural assessment and monitoring-based evaluation, supporting sustainable management of critical transport networks and reducing the need for premature replacement of structures.
