Welcome. The staff in the laboratories is here to help you through your project, and in cooperation make it a good experience for everyone. Many people use the facilities, and therefore there are some guidelines in place that we are all responsible to follow. In order t0 gain access, you must read these and fill in the form below. Then we will make sure that you are ready to start your project.

NB: Every student who wishes to obtain access must do this. It is not possible to do in groups.



PROTECTIVE GEAR

Safety shoes

Must always be used when working with heavy objects. The laboratory does not lend out safety shoes.

Ear muffs, safety glasses and safety helmets

Must be used when the circumstances require it. Meaning, if the noise surpasses 80 dB, when there is risk of eye damage during blasting/working with chemicals and similar, and if you are in risk of hitting your head. The laboratory will lend out this equipment.

Covering and sealing off projects

When working on projects with a risk of sudden breaks or where the elastic energy is large, a cover must be set up. It may be a good idea to seal off your project with barrier tape to avoid that others fiddle with or are injured by your project. The laboratory will lend out this equipment.


OVERHEAD TRAVELLING CRANE, FORKLIFT TRUCK AND ELECTRICAL STACKER

Can generally only be handled by staff. Permission to use overhead travelling crane and electrical stacker can be given by contacting staff.

Violation of the rules can result in dismissal.

Elaboration of regulations

All tools in the hall are at disposal for the users and we spend a lot of energy tending to this. Therefore, all tools must be put back in place after use and cannot be removed from the Project Hall.

We try to keep laboratories and workshops free of dust and have previously been visited by the fire department due to a fire alarm set off by dust. Therefore, all dusty work must take place outside. It can seem unfair that eating and drinking is not allowed in the Project Hall, but there are several reasons for this. One reason is that much of our equipment is very expensive (!) and since AU is a self-insured institution, we would like to avoid a coke or coffee spilling into the wrong place. Another reason is that we often work with materials, which the working environment authority prohibits intake of food and drinks in close proximity to. Furthermore, we are not fans of piles of used and abandoned plates with dried gravy and fruit flies.

There are many users of the Project Hall and many machines. Therefore, we try to keep the sound level at a minimum and do NOT allow music.

It is self-evident that safety in regards to handling chemicals must be complied with. Often, one does not realise how toxic or allergenic an over the counter product can be, so we advise everyone to read the safety data sheet before using the chemicals.
