My research focuses on adaptive structures as a sustainable solution for the built environment. My work demonstrated that significant material and carbon reductions can be achieved compared to conventional passive structures. I have also demonstrated that adaptive structures can perform active diagnosis, detecting and localizing structural damage through self-excitation. My research agenda advances three pillars: applying rigorous mathematical optimization for lightweight design, exploiting engineered nonlinearities for semi-active vibration control, and extending active diagnosis to complex systems.
